6th September - The Middle Stump Matches - All You Need to Know

26 Aug 2026

The big day is almost here!

On Sunday 6th September, we'll be marking the 250th anniversary of the first recorded game played with a middle stump - when Chertsey took on Coulsdon back in 1776. To celebrate the occasion, we'll be playing two matches simultaneously:

  • Chertsey XI v Coulsdon, Chipstead, and Walcountians – at Chertsey CC
  • Hambledon v Chertsey XI – away at Broadhalfpenny Down

(both from 12.30pm)

The home game is the place to be, and we want as many members, supporters, friends and family as possible down at the club to help us celebrate Chertsey's incredible place in cricket history. We also hear Sky may be popping down, so there's even more reason to get yourself to the ground and show your pride in Chertsey CC and its rich history.

Plus we're putting on a coach to Hambledon so those who want to travel down to support can do so on us to be part of this special day - CCC Members can check their Spond for details.

For those wanting to drive down to Broadhalfpenny Down instead - this is the adddress: Broadhalfpenny Down, Hyden Farm Lane, Hambledon, PO8 0UB Two Chertsey teams.

Two historic fixtures. One very special day.
