Congratulations to the Ladies, who on Sunday won the Surrey Slam Shield at Valley End on Surrey Slam Shield Finals Day.
With Dorking up first in the semi-final. Captain Shannen Miah elected to field first. The Ladies' bowling was immaculate from the off, going at just 4 an over before two wickets in the fourth Edie Schofield over set about a Dorking collapse, 13-2, 13-3, 18-4, Sienna Austin with a run out and wicket. Dorking just weren't allowed to get going, Freya Edwards (3-7) joining in the fun, her three overs peppered with wickets and run outs, 47-7, 49-8, 49-9, before Jess McNae finished things off first ball, leaving Dorking 53 all out, just five fours throughout the whole innings. If we've learnt one thing this season, it's that a low score doesn't always mean a win, but in Freya Edwards we trust, and her 38 off 32 along with Lottie Sewell sealed the win in 10.2 overs, sending them to the Final.
All that stood between Chertsey and the trophy were Lingfield, winners of Slam Shield League 5. Captain Miah again won the toss and elected to field. Lingfield found themselves 13-1 and things weren't quite as dark as the Dorking innings, but even so the Chertsey bowlers put on a show, eight bowlers thrown at their oppo and seven overs between Lingfield beating the rope, just two fours in the whole 20 overs. Edie Schofield again set about the tumble, Sienna Austin and Freya Edwards in the mix with wickets and run outs, but Lingfield took their time, ending 5 down for their 67. All Chertsey had to do were keep their heads, and they got off to a flyer, 21 runs of the first two overs. It was down to Captain Miah (20*) and Ellie Searle (8*) at the end to see them over the line, and Chertsey, are the 2025 Surrey Slam Shield Winners. It's got a nice ring to it, hasn't it.
Congratulations to the squad, what an incredible season, especially Captain Miah - a Captain who leads from the front and who knows how to get the best out of her players.
