We've had this subject heading in our drafts since the minute we told you all bets were off. We're out of cricket hibernation at long last.
We received the ECB's directive last Wednesday evening (see attached the roadmap) and have been working hard to implement a safe environment for everyone. Its an ever-changing beast, so we will take the neccesary steps as we go. Keep doing as you're doing though and utilising your Wassaaap groups for further info on matches and training.
The big news is the first cricket of 2020 was played behind closed doors this weekend (see attached pics), and was seen as a bit of a trial to implement the advice, giving all teams across the board an opportunity to get used to the "new normal" comfortably, with a seniors inter-club match on the Saturday and an unofficial Colts Day on Sunday, and the U13s even made the trip to Egham for a friendly, so it's been jam-packed. Both days went very well, and being blessed with perfect cricket weather was a bonus, so big up to all for adapting to things so quickly.
Dates For Your Diary
Now the first hurdle's out the way, we're really pleased to be able to give you some Dates For Your Diary
We have this to look forward to though. Hot climes, loud shirts, exciting squads, of course its the CPL. No we don't mean THAT CPL - that's not til August anyway, there's a better one in town, as this weekend sees the return of the Chertsey Premier League. If you're not familiar with it its 20 overs of Chertsey pyjama cricket at its best, now in its fourth season. Can current holders Grove Armada retain their title? Can the Gogmore Knights snatch it back? Or can bridesmaids Meads Enforcers or Bourne Stars get there for the first time? Let's see. We'll pop you an email later in the week with all the details. We hear a rumour SuetheBurgerLady will be back and she has invested in a slush puppy machine, we think that and the return of halloumi fries may just finish us off.
As & where we can we're going to try out some match live streams too so if you can't get to us, we will come to you. Our success rate at live streams isn't great (anyone who bore witness to the 2s match v Old Ruts last season can testify), so its worth seeing the carnage unfold if anything. Oh and we can't add in background noise a-la TMS before you ask.
